Joseph Mohr a Catholic priest wrote this hymn in 1818. He shared his hymn-poem with his friend, Franz Gruber who wrote the music. The song was first sung for Christmas exercises in the village church. Father Mohr sang the song as he played his guitar. The village girls’ choir joined in the melody, repeating the last two lines of each stanza. As history reports it, wandering Tyrolese singers made the hymn known all over Germany and Austria. This hymn, written on Christmas Eve, is “Silent Night, Holy Night”. The following is the last stanza:

Silent night, holy night
Wondrous Star, lend they light;
With the angels let us sing
“Alleluia to our King;
Christ, the Savior, is born,
Christ, the Savior, is born.”

Let’s all remember this is the true meaning of Christmas.
